The children’s interactive and digital experience specialist, Weyo, has teamed with Sesame Workshop to develop a new mobil app that transports preschoolers into the world of Sesame Street.
Called Sesame Street Yourself, the app launches on September 30 this year, landing just in time for Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary. The app was just one of the big reveals at Apple’s special launch event this week.
Sesame Street Yourself brings Sesame Street into the action by transporting them onto the screen to take centre stage on Sesame Street itself, as they dress themselves up as their favourite characters through AR technology.
Powered by Weyo’s award-winning Interactive Video, AR and facial recognition technology, the new app features opportunities to sing, play and dance along with popular Sesame Street characters.
Earlier this week, Apple featured one of the app’s AR games – “Cookie’s Cookie Capers” – at an Apple Special Event. As part of an update currently planned for November, this rear-facing AR game will use the power of Apple’s ARKit3 to bring Cookie Monster to life for a baking extravaganza.
Baz Palmer, co-founder and CEO of Weyo, said: “We are so excited to be collaborating with Sesame Workshop as part of Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Sesame Street Yourself was designed to inspire and drive a new form of interactive play in a safe and fun digital environment. Our unique tech was developed just for kids, and Sesame Street is undeniably the most loved of all kids brands. It’s a great combo.”
Scott Chambers, Sesame Workshop’s senior vice president and general manager, educational media and licensing, North America, added: “Sesame Workshop strives to be everywhere kids and families learn and play together, offering best-in-class experiences that parents can trust. With Weyo, an innovator in interactive video technology, we’ll bring the laughter and learning of Sesame Street to families in a whole new way.”
Weyo was established in 2017 and is the creative force behind The Wiggles – Fun Time with Faces app, its first public release. The app was featured multiple times by Apple as ‘App of the Day’ after reaching number one on the Kids and Entertainment charts in App stores around the world.
The app recently won a national innovation award in Australia.
