Yo Kai Watch to make South and Southeast Asian debut on Toonami

Hit Japanese cartoon series Yo Kai Watch is to make its South and Southeast Asian debut this month as it prepares to air on Toonami.

The popular children’s network has secured 65 half hour episodes that will be available exclusively in almost all countries around the region.

From the Japanese anime studio, Dentsu, Yo Kai Watch follows the adventures of Keita, a boy who discovers a magical watch that allows him to meet and befriend Yo Kai.

The series has already inspired a loyal following among kids and adults alike that has driven Japanese toy sales to the highest in ten years.

From June 27th toonami will air the series as part of its Anime siege primetime programming, running on weekends from 9.30am.

“Yo Kai Watch is the perfect complement to Toonami’s dynamic anime line-up,” said Mark Eyers at Toonami.

“We have seen kids in North Asia react so positively to this unique series with its eccentric and surprising characters – and uplifting music. In both Japan and Korea, the franchise’s success has extended way beyond the screen to become a genuine phenomenon loved by both kids and families.

“We can’t wait to see Yo Kai Watch enthrall Toonami’s audience in South and Southeast Asia.”

The Yop Kai Watch IP first began as a Nintendo computer game and contains the theme song Gera Gera Pro, which is now sung and danced to by kids across the globe. The franchise has so far generated an estimated $1.5 billion in merchandise.
